Pelmeni a sort of Russian dumpling with minced meats wrapped in thin, unleavened dough. The meat for the filling varied due to regions and climates. Because of the cold weather, mushrooms are more common than leafy vegetables and meats like venison will be used. Additionally, the mixture of different kinds of meat is also popular. Siberians added various spices, such as black pepper, onions and garlic, into the filling. Pelmeni is a member of the family of dumplings, which is related to Ukrainian varenyky and Polish pierogi. As one of the origin of frozen food, Pelmeni is created to be preserved in cold climate that can be prepared with simple ways of cooking. Pelmeni are boiled with salt water or chicken broth, then accompanied with sour cream, mustards, tomato sauce, drill or vinegar. Moreover, there are different ways to cook Pelmeni. In Russia far East, Pelmeni will be boiled and fried while in Tartarstan, Pelmeni will be served in clear soup.
