Spring roll can be referred to foods with various fillings, wrapped and rolled by thin skin. Most widely known as appetizers or dim sum derived from Asia, spring roll is usually fried. The wrapper can be thin crepe pastry sheets, transparent rice paper, or thin omelet wrapper. The typical fillings are minced pork, shredded carrot, sliced omelet, bean sprouts and other vegetables served with sauces. Different kinds of wrappers, fillings, cooking methods used and names are used in different cultures and regions. For example, a popiah, is a fresh spring roll without frying that contains sugar and peanut powder in the filling. A nem rán, known as egg roll, is a mini fried spring roll which is popular in Western countries.
